Car Insurance For German Tourists In Florida.

Knowledgeable about renting a rental car
Not only tourists but even US citizens often lose track of their American car insurance and what it covers.
Here is an overview of the type of insurance that is usually available if you want to allow a vehicle in the US:
The liability for personal injury covers all costs incurred in connection with the injury or death of another driver or pedestrian if the accident was caused by the insured. Of course, this also applies if the injured party is a tourist involved in a crash involving a road user guaranteed in Florida.
Damage to property
Insurance against damage to property is paid for the costs that were caused by the other cars, buildings or other objects by accident and then takes effect if the crash was created by the insured. This insurance also regulates the damage caused to tourists.
“Uninsured Motorist” insurance,
Regarding uninsured or underinsured accident opponents
This insurance covers the medical treatment costs of the insured driver if the accident opponent, who caused the accident culpably, is not insured or not sufficiently ensured.
This type of liability does not exist in every US state but is compulsory in Florida. In principle, strict liability insurance covers the costs of the insured, which are related to the accident, whether the insured himself or the accident opponent has caused this is not relevant.
In Florida, the coverage of compulsory no-fault motor insurance must be at least $ 10,000. German visitors should be aware, however, that this type of liability often does not apply if non-resident residents are involved, for example, if you are involved in an accident as a tourist as a passenger of a Florida insured person outside the state of Florida or if you are a pedestrian in case of being injured by an insured driver.
However, this applies only to the strict liability of the insurance, the possibility of the treatment and other costs still get replaced by the insurance shown above, of course, continues.
If you are in Florida for a long period and have a vehicle there, please note that even if you are not permanently resident in Florida you are required to complete the no-fault insurance described above with a minimum coverage of $ 10,000 if: the car has been in your possession for more than 90 days of the previous year. (Fla. Stat. § 627.733 (2)).
What does that mean for the car insurance of your rental car?
Most car rental companies in the US offer two different types of insurance, fully comprehensive insurance and real liability insurance.
As in Germany, fully comprehensive insurance protects the renter against all financial liabilities or costs that may arise as a result of theft, vandalism or other damage to the rental car. Additional coverage provides protection against lawsuits by accident victims for personal injury and property damage, which would also take over the coverage of a car owner in Florida.
If you have already provided insurance yourself – sometimes this is the case, for example, with your credit card – make sure that all relevant damage is covered by it before you decline insurance by the rental car company. German legal protection insurance, which occurs in the US in the event of loss, is urgently recommended.
For German tourists travelling to Florida, it is enormously important to be informed about the various options and policies and to be prepared for emergencies. A lawyer may, if you or a friend have been involved in an accident, the handling of the crash and the associated consequences and costs for you or provide the necessary assistance.
